What we collect
If you only read
Reading an article requires no account and we set no first-party tracking cookie for it. Our host records standard server logs, including IP address and user agent, for security and abuse prevention.
If privacy-preserving analytics are enabled, they count page views without cookies and without storing anything that identifies you personally.
If you subscribe to the newsletter
We store:
- Your email address.
- The date you subscribed and the page you subscribed from.
- A hashed record of the IP address used, kept as proof of consent and to stop signup abuse.
- Whether you confirmed the subscription, and when.
We use double opt-in: nothing is sent until you click the confirmation link. The legal basis is your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email or by writing to us. Unsubscribing removes you from the sending list and keeps only a suppression record so we cannot accidentally add you again.
If you email us
We keep the correspondence so we can answer it and follow up. We do not add correspondents to any mailing list.
Advertising
This site carries advertising served by Google. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including personalised ads where you have consented. Google's own description of this is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can control ad personalisation at myadcenter.google.com.
Readers in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland are shown a consent prompt before any non-essential cookie is set, and can change or withdraw that choice at any time. Details are on the cookie policy page.
Who your data is shared with
- Our hosting and CDN provider, which serves the pages and keeps security logs.
- Our email provider, which stores newsletter subscriber addresses and sends the emails.
- Google, for advertising, as described above.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share newsletter subscriber addresses with advertisers, sponsors, or anyone else.
How long we keep it
- Server logs: up to 30 days.
- Newsletter records: until you unsubscribe, then a minimal suppression record indefinitely.
- Unconfirmed newsletter signups: deleted automatically after 30 days.
- Email correspondence: up to 24 months.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, to object to processing, and to complain to a supervisory authority. To exercise any of these, email intelligence@rolearn.dev. We will respond within 30 days and will not charge you for it.
Children
This is a business publication and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has subscribed, tell us and we will delete the record.
Changes
Material changes to this policy will be announced in the newsletter and dated at the top of this page. The date above is the current version.
